The School of Art, Design and Media congratulates their Digital Animation students and alumni!
Congratulations all! Considering that it was less than a month ago when our third batch of students graduated, our school is doing really well! I’m really proud to have been from this school!
Culturepush wrote an article about the 8th Singapore Shortcuts. Two other films, animations, are made by my friends. A Cloudy Conundrum by Calvin, Samantha (Samm), Yvonne (Vonnie), Ying Tong (YT) and Siang Kee (SK), and Burger Burger by Shi Cong and Gavin! Whee! So proud of everyone, especially the team from A Cloudy Conundrum because theirs is also done traditionally, and as fellow lightbox users, all of us slogged through our final school year (inclusive of sleepless nights and forgotten holidays) in a laboratory without windows which we aptly renamed The Dungeon of Lightboxes.
Man, I miss school… and my disgusting workspace (:

I want to be in her shoes.
Not when she goes on her decapitating frenzy.
But now.

I’m not sure if I allowed to write his name, but one of the selectors wrote me an e-mail to ask me for additional information and he said, “Being a Fables reader for years, RED is a rather pleasant surprise. So we are glad that you made it.” I’m a habitual graphic novels reader (I prefer manga) but I really love Fables so his comment really made my day!
I never really thought much about how this animated short would affect me but it has opened a possibility I never thought… possible *laughs* I’m looking forward to opening my schedule after August and working on something new, and praying for mid-September to bring me good news!

Winning an award, let alone the Grand Prix Award at The Very Short International Film Festival was completely unexpected. I dragged one of my best friends, Peiru, along after work to attend the event at Zouk. The painfully shy and awkward me finds it incredibly difficult to go to large events and gatherings on her own. Peiru was saying I had to thank her on stage should I win. I have to apologise, because I was so freaked out on stage that I could only thank the event (VSIFF), the organisers (ZoMedia), the judges, my family and friends… and I swear I was gasping out my ‘speech’. Eric Khoo was the head judge. ERIC KHOO!!! And he is such a nice person ( *__* )
A series of embarrassing events ensued with my dropping the incredibly gorgeous handcrafted glass award (I hate myself for that, but good thing it didn’t break, phew!) when I was going back to my seat, and the very strange interview answers I gave to RazorTV. They have an incredible editor because they managed to make me sound like I wasn’t insane *laughs* You can watch it here.
To my aunt and cousin (Anin and Ryza) and friends (Ayeeba, Lix, Mingy, Vincent and Kader) who attended the screening at Alliance Française and voted for me, thank you because I also won the Public Vote Award. The comments I received from my aunt and cousin who went, and their feedback on the reaction of the audience after they watched my film made me really happy.
Thank you sooooo much to the VSIFF 2011 Team and ZoMedia Singapore for awarding me with the Grand Prix Award for my film, Red! It is truly an honour. A special thank you to these incredible people from ZoMedia, Karee Dahl and Gwendaline Lim! I apologise if I caused you any trouble. Thank you for everything and it was an honour to meet with you. Thank you to my family (esp. Mama ♥), friends (too many to name but you know who you are!) and professors who encouraged me, especially Hannes for being such an incredible and patient mentor. Anyway, I couldn’t have done it without all of you! ♥ A special shout out to Peiru for supporting me that night and for the “woots” ♥ Hehe. Congratulations to all the other winners for their fantastic works! They definitely brought a smile to my face (:

Here’s an extract of Red if anyone is interested to see how it looks like in motion and with colours… which isn’t quite accurate because I used a different compression when exporting it to web. My Flash converter had problems with my original file compression. Oh well :D
This is for the ADM website. Slightly less than the 10% allowed if I want to continue submitting Red to festivals.

Red has finally been accepted into a festival, and that is The Very Short International Film Festival (VSIFF), although not really international, in my case. 25 local films were selected, one of which was selected to be screened internationally. Unfortunately, it wasn’t mine but hey, this is a huge step and I am grateful to the wonderful people at VSIFF and ZoMedia for liking Red.
There was an article that mentioned Red, and it was before the final list of selected films were officially released. I was in Hong Kong then, and when Kim and my mom notified me, I was really quite worried. I didn’t want to disappoint my family and friends, preferring not to comment about it until I knew the outcome of the selection. An e-mail also came from the organisers stating the same concerns as me but they were really positive about it. The confirmation e-mail came a couple of days ago. So… yay!
Here’s the article.
So where can you watch Red and films by amazing animators and filmmakers?
Where: Alliance Française, Singapore
When: May 6 to 8
Admission: $8 to $21, on sale from March 30 from Sistic outlets (call 6348-5555 or go to www.sistic.com.sg)

My family name (patronym) is Suhaimi, by the way. Not Suhami.
Thank you to everyone who enjoyed watching Red, and helped and supported me throughout the entire year of my final year ♥ MUACKS!

Poster for the ADM Show on 23rd July at Old School, Mount Sophia. Details here.
Our Animation Screening was a blast. Thanks to everyone who made it! And to those who liked my film despite how sadistic it was, I love you!! In a totally non-sadistic way, of course ;)
Much much love to my mother and sisters who were extremely supportive. Special thanks to Bixia and Ken’s mothers, and Yvonne’s family. They enjoyed it, but Yvonne’s father and brother were quite traumatised. Well, we women are supposedly stronger when it comes to experiencing blood and pain, no? :D
